Thanks to either a mild stomach bug or mild food poisoning, this will be a shorter entry than normal. I have full reviews written for two of the four books that I will discuss here. (The graphic novels will have their usual separate post.) I finished the third book, Immortal, Thursday evening and then hours later the bug struck. I kept reading but definitely did not have the energy to write reviews. Instead of placing pressure on myself to catch up, I’m giving myself grace and skipping these two reviews.

Lee did a masterful job bringing this sweeping generations long epic to a fairly satisfying conclusion. Even though, for me, I enjoyed Jade War the most out of the trilogy, I still stand in awe of how Lee balanced and managed so many characters and plot lines in such a way that she could weave all of them together leaving nothing hanging while also endearing a fairly unlikeable character so much that their ultimate end will pull
strongly on the reader’s heartstrings. While I understand why she needed to cover so much time in this installment, that ended up being the primary thing holding me back from a five star. Overall though, this is an absolutely brilliant series.
Before I get into this review, I have to definitely state that this book is in no way a fantasy book. It has even less connection to the fantastical than her two other adult novels which I also enjoyed. A slightly stronger than normal supernatural twin connection does not a fantasy novel make. Moving on. As a reading experience, I found myself engaged through the whole novel. However, I was aware throughout the entire

novel that I have read this before, not this specific novel but yet another version of the same basic characters, the same basic relationships, the same basic plot, written by the same author. I liked it but wish that Young would mix things up.

I think I need to acknowledge that Sue Lynn Tan is not the author for me. She has absolutely beautiful covers but the content never engages me.
I have wanted to try Okorafor’s books for a while and this was the perfect start. This book absolutely fascinated me. And that ending!
