Pokethon – Eterna Gym

It ended up being much easier to finish this gym than I thought since the food poisoning I got towards the end of February knocked out the two events I had planned to attend that day. That being said, I did make it into a sort of 24 hour timer challenge since I had minimal “productive” hours that day.

I enjoyed these volumes even though I accidentally had a volume on the TBR that I had already read. Since I made the TBR from my supposedly unread pile, that likely means that I bought a duplicate. Oops. As for the content? I think that Dr. Who fans would potentially enjoy these but not a much wider audience than that.

I knew I had a high chance of enjoying this first volume and it did not disappoint. This manga tells the story of Frieren, an elf mage who along with three others traveled the land and brought peace. When they return home, she takes off to find magic telling her friends that she will see them in 50 years, a blink of time to her but so much longer for her human friends. When she returns and finds them so aged, she starts to realize the

difference and begins a new journey to make amends of sorts. I will definitely continue reading this one.

This marks my first foray into translated healing fiction. Based on some reviews, I knew this had the potential to hit me in the feels. I wish I could say that it did. That’s not to say that I was disappointed or didn’t enjoy the book; I really did. I simply did not find something life-changing. I really enjoyed the structure of this short novel and how the author told these four different stories while weaving together these characters into an

ensemble cast that the reader may not expect. I will continue in this series although it will take low priority.

After hearing some reviews from people who were slightly disappointed with the book, I approached the read with a little bit of apprehension because I did not want to have to unhaul such a pretty edition. Thankfully, this gorgeous book will stay in my library. This book tells the story of a woman (whose name I cannot remember) who travels around in her wagon telling small fortunes only along with the story of three other

people who end up joining her along the way. This cozy fantasy definitely had more plot than Legends and Lattes, the default example of the subgenre but I enjoyed that. The traveling had a purpose and each of the somewhat episodic adventures felt like it served a purpose and helped the main character develop. This book did not break new ground but it did not need to since it did its job.

I also read 102 Days of Lying About Lauren and give me a sign, both of which are nominees on one of the 2025-2026 lists, 102 Days of Lying About Lauren on the Junior Book Award list and give me a sign on the Young Adult Book Award List. I will have the reviews of those books in the specific posts for that project.
